The National French Contest (or le Grand Concours) is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French and administered by the local AATF chapter. Students of French in grades 1-12, in all 50 states and abroad, take a written test and compete against students with similar educational background for prizes. Grades 1-6 participate in the FLES Contest while grades 7-12 participate in the Secondary Contest.
On behalf of the officers of your Rochester Chapter of the AATF, I would like to extend an invitation to you and to your students to participate in the 2016 Grand Concours, the National French Contest of the American Association of Teachers of French.
We encourage all French teachers, whether members of the AATF or not, to participate in le Grand Concours. This one-hour exam challenges your students’ abilities to understand both the spoken and written language as well as their knowledge of French grammar and vocabulary. Le Grand Concours provides a valuable opportunity for our aspiring francophiles to demonstrate their skills and to obtain well-deserved recognition for their effort.
This year, there are several major changes to the Grand Concours:
- In addition to the traditional “pen & paper” test, an online version of the test will be available this year. Students can use any internet-ready device (desktop computer, laptop, tablet/iPad, smartphone) on which to take the test. The online test will allow teachers to proctor their own exams and for multiple levels to be scheduled at the same time. Teachers and students will have immediate access to scores for online tests.
- Registration will be handled exclusively through headquarters at http://www.frenchteachers.org. The staff at AATF Rochester is available to assist teachers with this new registration process.
If you have any questions concerning le Grand Concours, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will post addition information including a link to the registration page when it becomes available. We look forward to having your students participate.
Merci et bon courage,
Lori Anne Heller
President of the AATF Rochester Chapter
